Since 2016, CCA has coordinated all after school and educational enrichment programming for youth detained in New York City’s secure juvenile facilities, Crossroads and Horizon, as well as youth in non-secure detention/placement in the city’s Close to Home sites via Belmont Passages Academy.
Our daily presence in the facilities allows us to support youth both during and after incarceration, fostering meaningful connections and opportunities for growth. Through mentoring and programs in areas such as the arts, music, athletics, wellness, STEM, and career exploration, CCA breaks down barriers to personal and professional success for one of the city’s most vulnerable populations.
We believe that meaningful youth participation is critical, and we actively facilitate feedback from participants. Youth engaged in our detention facility-based programming participate in Resident Councils and receive paid stipends for their work to improve facility conditions, organize events, and evaluate programming.
